Commercial Solar Incentives in Ontario.
Two programs pay for most of a business rooftop system: the IESO Save on Energy incentive and the federal Clean Technology tax credit. With accelerated first-year depreciation on top, about 65% of a typical system's cost is covered.

Questions
How much is the Save on Energy solar incentive for a business?
Under the IESO Save on Energy Retrofit program, a solar system more than 10 kW AC, up to 1 MW AC gets $770 per kW AC (77¢/W AC). The incentive is capped at 50% of eligible project costs. The rate moved from 86¢/W on June 30, 2026. Information as at October 2026.
Can I combine the Save on Energy incentive with net metering?
No. A system funded by the Retrofit program cannot have a net metering agreement. It must run for load displacement, which means the building uses the power it makes, for the life of the system.
Does a ground-mount system qualify for Save on Energy?
No. The Save on Energy solar incentive covers rooftop and parking canopy (carport) systems only.
When do I apply?
Before you sign a purchase order or any other binding commitment. If a project starts before the application, it can lose the incentive or get a lower one. We prepare the application as part of the job.
Who can claim the federal Clean Technology tax credit?
The credit is for businesses that file a corporate or trust tax return, not for individual homeowners. It is up to 30% of the capital cost for property in use by the end of 2033, and up to 15% in 2034. Ask your accountant how it applies to your tax position.
